I know, I know, I should spread my content out, but it feels like I've been working on this for an age and I want to show people! (Though I suppose it can't have been that long; I've only had the DVD since January...)
I did a Hamlet vid!! With the David Tennant RSC version!
stultiloquentia was very patient with me and gave many fabulous beta comments along the way, so thank you to her!
Triceratops.
Hamlet doesn't like being watched.
Ophelia doesn't have a choice in the matter.

Date: 31/05/2010 16:46 (UTC)It’s a very challenging source with all the staginess and all talking and you take all that and shamelessly make it a feature. Hamlet just won’t shut up. It’s not what he says but that he never stops and all the jump cuts and ghosts and repeats take their cue from the rhythm of his constant jabber. And at some point you completely turn it around and make the vid Ophelia’s, so every move he made becomes mere foreshadowing for what she has to say, the cracked mirror is hers, it always was and the ending finally silences him, desaturates him, makes him the ghost trapped in the viewscreen.
Is it OK if I rec it?

I remember reading around some vidding meta and seeing someone say that they never use clips with talking, and laughing to myself because I knew that was never going to happen with Hamlet. There's so much dialogue, all the time...
I would love for you to rec it! I'm not sure it's really pertinent to my flist's interests, so anything that punts it in the direction of (potentially) interested parties would be lovely!

Date: 05/06/2010 18:07 (UTC)So he tries to force others onto stage center: Claudius, briefly, but mostly Gertrude and then Ophelia (issues with women? who him?). But Ophelia doesn't want to and cannot tell the story he desires out of her; she has to tell her story, and Hamlet gets angrier and angrier as he fails to make her play the scene he wants (fails to direct events. takes it out on the women.). He simultaneously can't stand to be on camera, and can't stand it when it's NOT All About Him.
He forces them onstage, and then he kills their stories, which kills them, and then (surprise, buddy) in the last shot he's alone, and guess what: he's still being watched, and all he's done is shown the audience his own monstrosity.
HELL of a vid, Quin. Wow. *salutes*
