It's slightly ironic after
curiouswombat's talk at
writerconuk, but I was looking over one of my stories (as you do) and managed to make myself go completely bzuh?? I was reading An Exercise in Futility quite happily - there were clear signs that I'd been rushing, but nothing too bad - and then not very far in I got to this moment when Navinder supposedly brushes his fringe out of his eyes... Which is the most ridiculous thing I've read in a while, because Navinder, being Sikh, is wearing a turban (this doesn't actually come up in Wesley's POV otherwise, though it does now at this point). The annoying thing is that I know exactly how it got in there, because Navinder was originally a woman until I'd practically finished the story - Nicolette was also originally a man, but I decided it would be better to swap the genders of those two characters. I scrupulously checked to make sure the hes and shes were swapped, but I apparently missed this total WTF moment!
Anyway, I thought I'd mention it in case anyone happened to have the same reaction at the time and didn't want to say anything. I suppose people might not have had the same fixed knowledge of his religion as I did, but, still, ack. Let this be a lesson for anyone who makes major changes to their OCs at the last minute... *shakes head with embarrassment*
