It works!! At last it is returned to me and it works!! It works!!

OK, I forgot to bring any games back with me in the gloom of having no PlayStation, but I'm popping to see the parents at the weekend and then I'll have games!! Other than this driving game that is far too open box for me (Los Angeles, you are unnavigable!!) and this weird golf game I don't understand at all.

And it works!! I sat on the rug with my controller in front of the telly and I pressed the buttons and it made noises at me!

And I keep seeing adverts for FFXIII-2! All right, so I want to play VIII again, and then there's X and X-2 and XII and the actual XIII to play, but I would say it's, what, about forty-fifty hours a pop for a good completion? That's no so long even though I like the shopping and the subquests and the all the chocobo stuff.

I've lost everyone with the chocobos, haven't I?

Damn, for the first time ever I wish I were eleven again. No fic to write; no PhD to do - just me and the old PlayStation and a sofa and a telly and the summer holidays and a litre of long-life orange juice. All right, the orange juice wasn't the best bit, but I am something of a liquid snacker and that was when Coke was controlled in my house.

Also, when I was eleven, I knew what to do with cardboard boxes, rather than being faced with the annoyance of knowing I'll need them to move my stuff as and when, but not having any idea where to store them...

Also, I was rubbish when I was eleven. I think I need to combo that with the orange juice and the summer after GCSEs.

I actually got over the place where I got stuck in Neverwinter Nights 2 over Christmas - only to get horribly stuck again right away. And I'm only three stages from the bloody end! I just want it to be over. So I can crank open the expansion packs.

I am stuck in a bit where I can't go back. I have no idea about the equipment as I have never quite got my head around comparative weaponry.

Oh dear! Do you have a save anywhere near the place of no returns? Otherwise, masses and masses of spacebar pausing? (This is how I remember my brother winning FR fights...)

I should have but |I can't find it. I've never tried the pausing, why does that work?

I seem to get my best results by controlling my mage, but I'm still nowhere near good enough.

I think the idea with pausing is that you can set everyone up with something to do simultaneously (so you can decide on all the spells you're casting basically), let it happen, and then do it again in reaction to what the enemies do. I don't know if they've removed the functionality, but it used to be that you could give everyone a target while the game was paused. Technically it should make you six times faster!

I have a druid, fighter, sorcerer paladin, ranger and probably a warlock when he wants to join in (this doesn't make a lot of difference), all at level 17.

The Druid has the Silver Sword of Gith.
The Ranger has The Sly Blade and Laeral's Spell Shield
The Paladin has The Nightthief's Claw/Uhtigardt's Holy Shield
The Dwarf Fighter has Hammer of the Lost Empire and a Mirror Shield
The Sorcerer has Remembrance

Hmm... This is probably pretty standard advice and I don't know what all the weapons and stuff mean, but I'd make sure to keep your druid and your sorcerer behind him (as far away as poss), hitting with as many incapacitating/defence-weakening spells as possible (though if one has healing spells, they can concentrate on that too), while your fighter characters hassle him from the front and take the damage, since they can probably fare better. Completely ignore his summons, though if you have explodey spells with a good range try and take them in too - you can deal with the leftover demon things once he's dead.

That's pretty much all I've got; I'm much more into turn-based combat...
