Further attempt to record myself, in which I explain the reason why I thought I would again, explain the basis of my dissertation and its relevance to my thinking about fandom.

(You really don't need to listen to this one - it's bloody long; I'm just posting it as part of a commitment to posting it... Though, PS, I do eventually remember the right Shakespeare play by the end if you get that far and want to yell at me!)

Date: 28/01/2010 23:43 (UTC)I loved the way you recapped Hippolytus, both word choice and delivery. You are funny.
I think you have my ideal "Campfire Tale for the End of Days" voice, actually. If you ever feel like giving me a random present, will you record that?
I am totally hopeless at the "place my accent" game. I know what RP sounds like, and if I think very hard I can remember things like, "Sean Bean is from Yorkshire," but otherwise? You are some variety of English. (Can you tell a Cape Bretoner from a Newfie?) Besides, you do fluctuate. So do I. I'm an accent sponge who's lived in six far-flung locations, but also, I'll pronounce a word twenty different ways depending on what the subtext is.
Notes on actual content forthcoming.

Ta very much! (Though I think I do a funnier Aeneid.)
All right, you win with your obscure Canadian places. Sometimes I think I can tell the difference between 'Canadian' and 'US'... (And possibly a difference between two Canadian accents, but the person I know with the second one has lived in London most her life, so it could be that I'm just picking up on the English.)
I'll pronounce a word twenty different ways depending on what the subtext is.
So true!

Date: 29/01/2010 02:16 (UTC)Little known fact: many news anchors in the US are contraband Canadians, because we supposedly have a "neutral" accent. I get asked if I'm British once in a blue moon, but never by anybody who actually, y'know, listens to Brits.
