Well, I'll start with the fact that "Return" is infinitely better than "The Return"!
And I think that kind of thought was reflected in the rest of the episode, which was really, really good. And well thought-out. And such a contrast to Epitaph One, which was all about the BIG statements and THE WORLD in contrast to the little things.
I don't really know what to say apart from :D. Since Epitaph One Echo/Ballard really smacked of S7 Spuffy, I may be taking Echo's breakdown as Joss's post-S7 projection of Buffy's psychology... I think I needed that touchstone, TBH, because I haven't been buying Echo/Ballard for the rest of the season. Though, I have to say, sticking Ballard in her head? NOT FUNCTIONAL! I think Adelle had it right that Echo's still fulfilling her fantasies to the last (and pfft that she has none). Which kind of makes me happy, because I've been growing to love-to-hate/dislike/boggle at Echo for a while now. *ruffles her ridiculously shiny hair*
Hooray for some queer representation, though I would have picked Zone personally, or both of them (there's a bit of dearth after all), because there's part of me that's beginning to wonder whether Joss doesn't have a fetish for lesbian redheads.
Topher makes me so sad! Adelle was absolutely fantastic. Topher Brink is a genius and you will keep a civil tongue in this house, or we will cut it out and put it in the soup. Classic line. I love the parallel to Boyd - the idea that forcing someone into an explosion as a doll only makes more dolls; it has to be self-sacrifice that solves the problem.
I feel kind of cheated of the Victor-going-tech-addict plotline. Had the series been longer Tony and Priya would have been so fascinating!! Ah well.
I don't know what else to say. Bye bye, Dollhouse, I'll miss you a lot. Though I still think cramming four seasons into four or whatever episodes was a bit of a mistake.
Although - where was Whiskey!! She didn't even get a video. :(
