Oh, now this is LOVE (and something I did not know) - back in the days of my LJ paid account I had a great time tweaking Component to get square corners and more prominent friendcolours and all the rest of it (though I was forever thwarted in my attempt to make my self-adapted/designed skin-changer to be sticky as people navigated).
