Another vid(?!) - for Final Fantasy VIII

I haven't been writing very much recently (mostly because of being busy, but also, I fear, because I'm a little burnt out on the written word for the moment - it'll recover in time, I'm sure!), but I've had a lot of fun putting together another fanvid - for FFVIII!! Specifically about Rinoa.

The Fortress at Sea Level.

I know absolutely squat about FF, but this is gorgeous. I love the movement, the swinging camera and the slow-downs and speed-ups, and the opening and closing sequences, which made me feel grounded, despite my contextlessness.

Oh, thank you! I was wondering how much sense it would make to people who didn't know what it was about (FFVIII has a mad, mad story like only a 50+ hours computer game can - evil sorceresses from the future control people through time, cities hidden from view in the tundra get taken over by monsters from out of space, soldiers in the past find sweethearts in random villages...), but the cut-scenes are absolutely beautiful, so I couldn't not play with them now I've learnt a bit about vidding. The swoopy panning in particular was dying to be toyed with. :D

This is tremendous. The clips and the music together were beautiful, and since FFVIII is the Final Fantasy most dear to my heart I am pretty sure I spent the entire vid with my jaw around my ankles (the bits with Edea! Wings! Ahhh!). Such great work, thank you for sharing. <3

Thank you for watching and commenting!! FFVIII is most dear to me as well (though I haven't played beyond IX because of not owning any consoles past the Playstation - and in my mind you can't play FF on a PC). I'm thrilled that you like it (Edea has so much AMAZING footage, it's unreal!!). :D

Here via renay- this is amazing! And I don't think it's my bias for FFVIII. The timing and flashes of the clips to the song gave it a lovely, eerie feel. It kind of reminded me of Squall's Time Compression sequence in the game. I like that it began and (almost) ended with Rinoa at the balcony.

I'm really interested in the music as well- do you know what the rest of this band/group's music is like?

Uh, sorry, that sounded a bit daft of me-- it reminds me of Time Compression not because clips were from that part in the game, but as if it were TC from Rinoa's point of view or her recollection of TC.

Thank you very much! I'm so glad you liked it. And I kind of love the idea of it being Time Compression from Rinoa's perspective, though I wasn't thinking of it like that - how cool!

From what I can find out, Model.Fragment are a sound design company more than anything (the full version of the track I used and a few others are here). It's such a shame (especially because I don't find their other tracks nearly as interesting...). But! The album I actually got The Fortress at Sea Level off, a free download from Fractalspin, has quite a few brilliant tracks of ambient electronica. :)

Thanks for those links! You're right, the other tracks by Model.Fragment aren't that interesting. The album's premise is quite funny! I can't wait to listen to it. ^^

And yes, hee, about the album's premise! I can't decide whether I think it works or not - clicks and beeps are usually the last thing I want to hear with a hangover! But then I find the electronicness of it quite soothing when my ears are ringing, because it's not so muffled as 'real' music. Not that I've spent time testing it, heh...

This was absolutely beautiful! The atmosphere is great and I love it when Rinoa's character is approached from the sorceress side.
