Apologies for the ugly and the lack of content. It's been time for a new layout anyway over at LJ, but I'm too anal to risk trying to slap something together now (and then emerging six hours later wondering where my day went when I was working out hex codes for colours). I'm also thinking of maybe starting afresh as far as content goes, though I'll probably bring fic over (especially the bits I'm fond of, but are too silly to post at AoOO. The plan at the moment is to keep my access list fairly restricted and my subscription list fairly extensive, to divorce them from the whole "friend" idea - I fully intend to have more friends than people who can access me (should I post anything flocked), basically, and read people who've never even heard of me.

See, that's one of the things I like about Dreamwidth -- you can read someone without giving them access to your flocked stuff, so it's useful for fic or getting to know someone before you let them in.

I keep thinking I should use this journal for something different than my LJ, but I don't know what yet, and I totally failed to use my IJ for anything useful at all.

I feel a bit ahead of the game, really, because there's no way I can see myself maintaining two journals simultaneously (let alone about different things). I kind of want to say 'come on, gang, let's all go to Dreamwidth', but I know it's not that simple, what with people having permanent accounts and stuff like stop_plagiarism, which I could never fully abandon even though I only help out there a little tiny bit these days.

I was thinking of mirroring plot_wout_porn somehow, since it might be relatively easy to shift over given that it's only starting up now. I don't know how people would feel about that - I might ask them, especially since it's only two months to go(!!).

Hee! I'm not really sure myself - basically something like setting up a community over on Dreamwidth that (this time round) maybe people could cross-post to, and then, if we do it again, have the Dreamwidth version as the primary 'archive', if you will. There's supposed to be a way, in the end, that people can automatically cross-post DW things to LJ, so it wouldn't effect readers. We'd just be able to take advantage of the super-long comment capability and the lack of ads (which I don't actually see because of my Firefox add-ons, but in principle I like the idea).

Now you've explained it better, so do I. Mind you, I still don't understand how people can be signed into DW and make comments on LJ posts without being signed into LJ. Unless they do have to be. I've probably just misunderstood everything, as usual.

I think they might have to be (or at least be signed in with OpenID and appear as like quinara.dreamwidth.org), but then you can be signed into both at once, I suppose.

I suppose. Unfortunately, I am still not quite getting why it's all so wonderful, though of course if everyone comes over here to stay, I will come too.

I think the no ads is relatively attractive to people, but I have to say I haven't entirely caught the bug yet. When it's launched properly (and I have the time to look into it all) I wouldn't be surprised if there aren't some interesting bits of functionality, as people seem to be mentioning. *shrugs*
