Irritating.
19 February 2011 23:23I have a deadline on Wednesday, so, as might be considered my MO, I've somewhat lost the will to work (have an essay, but can't work out how to make it any better; I finish things far too ahead of time, it's a thing), but have nevertheless essentially checked out of the world. To the point I was on the phone to my mum and seemed to think she would understand if I started talking about my essay (which she had been reading) in terms of two sections before and after the volta... Because, of course, that sort of conceptualisation's visible outside my brain.
Anyway, my checking out last weekend and this Friday/Saturday has essentially resulted in a draft
seasonal_spuffy fic - 16,000 words even. It's a S6 AtS crossover, and I quite like the premise (Buffy goes to Wesley instead of Tara about the spell), but there's a problem. I told myself it was a romance, that that would be fine (and I've been feeling like a serious-rather-than-fantasy S6 romance for a while anyway), but reading over this draft I now realise that what I really need is a plot - as in some physical stuff for Spuffy to bash around. Having emotional conversations give the structure for every scene makes the the fic too turbulent. Of course, the story (currently) relies on being fairly tightly slotted into the events of Loyalty, so there isn't much plot to be had, apart from things Spuffy aren't enough involved with. I was thinking it would be a kind of mystery, where Buffy's trying to find out what's going on with Connor, but I don't think it comes out at all, because the reader knows too much of it already, so it completely disappears behind the weight of the new material. Maybe there should be something with Holtz?
Not to mention that there should really be another chapter set in Sunnydale for balance at the end, because the whole thing is very 'what happens in Vegas' and doesn't quite feel real.
Grr!! Well, I suppose there's tomorrow.

Date: 20/02/2011 10:28 (UTC)Loyalty's my favourite Wes episode of S3 - it's the one just after he's discovered the prophecy about the father killing the son. He researches, then talks to the Loa!hamburger while Fred and Gunn get set up by Holtz's gang on a recon mission at the funfair on the pier; Lilah and Sahjhan do their deal and it ends with the 'earthquake, fire, blood' - though that's two days after it starts and I don't quite get that far. :D
