So when I volunteered to help at a conference, I thought it might be a pain. And it's true that I'll have to be in at 9.30 tomorrow morning - but I forgot that when the Classics Fac throws a party, what it actually throws is fuckloads of free wine. And cake in this instance (cake to take home!!). And lets me meet and make friends with a load of drunk randomers. It's times like this I remember why I don't want to leave.
Oh, and I wrote fic - here and here. I need to reply to LJ comments when it's not playing silly buggers. Spuffy phone convos: gloomy argument and phone sex. Free of content AO3 reckons needs a warning. I'm quite happy with them really, but then I spend most of my fic time pleasing myself. Though my email says that you, Bogalog, have been obtuse about something somewhere where I need to be sober to respond to the sarcasm properly.
Why didn't I bring home more free cake?

Date: 26/07/2011 01:10 (UTC)LJ is constantly acting up for me these days ---- it won't let me sign on, it won't let me move around the site, it keeps making the server time-out, etc, etc. At first I thought it was me working on weak wireless connections at home, but it happened over the weekend when I tried it on my office broadband, so I'm certain (in my mind, anyway), that it's LJ.

Date: 26/07/2011 22:07 (UTC)When it comes to LJ, I'm pretty certain that I'll always be where the people are, but it does seem to break down relatively frequently - and that's why I won't have a paid account there.

Date: 27/07/2011 02:46 (UTC)As for LJ, I must confess I never did buy a paid account there. Back when it was $2/month, I called the phone number they used to have when it was still run by that Brad guy out of San Francisco to ask a few questions (could I pay by check, what extra services would I be getting, things of that ilk) and ended up speaking to a person who didn't know how to be polite or even neutral in oral conversation. That put me off for a long while, and right around the time I started thinking "Gee, it might be nice to be able to have more icons", LJ started allowing paid advertisements on their site. At that point, I decided LJ didn't need or deserve my money because it would always put the needs of the big paying customers --- the advertisers and other internet services --- before the little journal "owners". When I add the current technical glitches to the irritations I've felt on and off since the inclusion of ads changed LJ's atmosphere, I'm definitely not included to ever think of giving them money no matter who owns them. Which, I'm sure, isn't breaking LJ's heart, nor is the fact that the posting I do there is virtually all through crossposting from here and that I only go log on a few times a week to specifically to check my friends list --- if LJ is deciding to let me, that is.
Hope your tummy feels well enough for some cake soon.
