Things I'm learning from writing fanfiction.

Never set a scene in KFC, especially if you haven't had any breakfast. It will lead to you wanting KFC. And then finding out that the only one in your city just so happens to be about three minutes from your front door. You then be mired with indecision about whether to go and get some for lunch, and will probably give in...

Related to this scene however, how much is KFC in the States? Could you feed two people with ten dollars back in 2002? What drinks do they serve? I remember it being Pepsi, but you don't want to drink Pepsi cola (obviously) so the option over here is (obvs) Tango, but I'm not sure that gets around much in the States. Do Pepsi places do Mountain Dew? Would people drink Mountain Dew with KFC? What does it even taste of? 7Up is my back up option, but it's quite a boring choice.

Oh, I iz hungry. I need a shower, but my housemate's having one and that will take time... I might just throw on some clothes and venture forth. For chicken, which I haven't had since I was about 17. (Strangely enough, KFCs relatively rare over here compared to McDonald's and Burger King. Or maybe this isn't strange?)

(Also, why am I trying to write something so long? It's going to send me mad...)

ETA: Well, that was fairly greasy and unpleasant. Tango's nice, though. I like how my chip bag is telling me 'crunchy, hot, delicious, tasty, delicious, golden' and even 'excite the senses', as a list of all the things its chips failed to achieve...

Last time I was in a KFC, which was probably about 2000, you could have fed two people with small amounts on $10. They have specials now. I rhink they had Mountain Dew. Lots of fast food places do, so it wouldn't be amiss to say the franchise in question does.

This is the problem with KFC --- grease, grease, grease. Plus, the don't cook the chicken enough. At least not back in my college days. Eat the coating, through away the chicken because what does pull of the bone is pink.

Cool, thanks! Some people on LJ seem to think that Dr. Pepper is also an option, which I might also use.

I've never had that problem with the chicken in any of the (few) times I've tried it, but that does sound worrying. I think my fictional chicken will be cooked through, though, just for the ease of storytelling!

Oh, just because Coke is clearly better. :D

(Basically, I'm a massive fan of Coke and anti-fan of colas which aren't it, to the point of a running gag, though I probably should have trailed it better here.)

Hahaha, I just wasn't sure if this was some weird Brit thing, like, "Pepsi with chicken? Are you MAD?"

(Personally, I'm not a Pepsi OR a Coke fan, although I do recall yours tasting weird... maybe because it has less of the stuff that causes cancer?)

I think the main difference with most of our fizzy drinks is that we don't use high-fructose corn syrup to sweeten basically anything over here, so our Coke is mainly sweetened with sugar. I know that's the difference I've noticed when I've tried American Coke (and a lot of other things).

Mountain Dew tastes like yellow sports drink -- it's hard to describe because it's just ... neon yellow and doesn't taste like anything out of nature.

Hmm, I see! I recognise the phenomenon, because we have enough 'blue' flavoured things over here, but I wouldn't know what 'yellow' flavour tastes like. Sounds... Interesting. ;)
